The Veronicas

The veronicas are a very extensive genus, with over 500 species mostly from the Northern hemisphere but with some Australian too.

Some of them have great properties, edible and medicinal wonder, traditionally used by the Native americans. some of them are also a spreading weed, like this one, Veronica persica..

My mother loves them, as they are a beutyfull pioneer plant, offering delicate blue flowers for most of the year.

They have been calledspeedwell, birdseyes, madonna’s eyes..

THis particular patch is right of the entrance of Leacock natural resevrve, Casula.
